I was absolutely fascinated by the idea that if things got too bad here, you could – by will of your mind – just decide to flip to another place. On The Flip Side by Nicholas Fisk – A book I read multiple times in Junior School. The story of a man who has almost no human contact at the start of the book, but is pulled back into the world by damage to his house, the imminent arrival of his seldom seen kid and his friendship with the owner of a doughnut shop. This Book Will Save Your Life by A M Homes – just so lovely from start to finish. I found myself in a bit of reading cul de sac – nothing I picked up was really doing it for me – so I picked up a Pratchett and eased myself gently back into reading. Love the side story about over promotion of certain people.

The Fifth Elephant by Terry Pratchett – You know what you are going to get with Pratchett, an easily accessible text, full of humour, with the odd piece of astounding insight thrown in. This includes a view on modern feminism which shows there is more to be done to achieve true equality. From that shocking scene a narrative of modern American life unfolds. Animal by Lisa Taddeo – This has one of the best openings for a novel which I have read in a long, long time.
